You can picture yourself walking through the halls quietly singing it to yourself, “I’m staying at the YHA Apollo Bay.” Maybe do a bit of toe tapping up the stairs and a shoe shuffle into the chill out room.
If you’re looking for Great Ocean Road accommodation, the YHA Apollo Bay deserves a little of your time chilling out in it.
Comfy chairs, a little love seat nook, high ceilings, beautiful lighting, and a fire that burns for seven months of the year.
And no TV – it’s just for allowing some down time into your life.
The Apollo Bay YHA is an eco-friendly hostel perfectly designed to reduce its impact on the environment and help you have a great stay in one of Australia’s most famous destinations – The Great Ocean Road.
The building is designed so that the upper wing can be shut down in the winter to conserve energy. It also lets in a lot of natural lighting and is spacious, modern, comfortable and very clean.
They also have a veggie garden that is available for guests to use for free.
Nothing gets me more excited to cook than a garden that supplies me with fresh ingredients, especially a sprig of rosemary for my cooking companion: G & T. (Otherwise known as a Mum’s five o’clock Gin and Tonic)
The kitchen is modern and very well equipped. There is one on both levels to reduce the crowding. We found the upper level was the quieter of the two.
Make sure you get up early to watch the sunrise from the rooftop deck or even chill out up there of an afternoon with a good book and some views. Sunset will give you just as pretty views.
The YHA Apollo Bay hostel is perfect for families
The rooms are comfortable and clean and in separate wings so it’s really quiet.
We met a Danish family who were staying there and couldn’t stop raving about how great the hostel was. It was quiet with plenty of space to enjoy a family meal together and then chill out in the lounge room with some movies available for rent.
The Apollo Bay YHA has a fantastic location, just a block back from the beach, making it a great place to stay on the Great Ocean Road.
But, it’s also a short drive to many of the attractions the Great Ocean Road is famous for: The koalas at Kennett River, the Great Otways National Park, the Cape Otway Lighthouse and the 12 Apostles.
Don’t miss the views over Apollo Bay from Mariner’s Lookout just on the hill behind the town – stunning. (I’d even walk up there if you’re fit and childless)
